Things to Do in Tzoumerka

Tzoumerka is one of Greece's least-visited mountain regions, sitting in the Pindus range between Epirus and Thessaly with dramatic gorges and ancient stone villages.

The region was a key stronghold during the Greek War of Independence, with many villages actively resisting Ottoman rule in the 1820s.

Tzoumerka's villages are built on near-vertical cliff faces—Anilio, Syrrako, and Mikro Papingo cling to mountainsides so steep that building materials were historically hauled up by rope.

The area is home to the Voidomatis River canyon, one of Greece's most spectacular gorges, popular for white-water rafting and kayaking.

Traditional stone architecture and way of life have remained largely unchanged in Tzoumerka's isolated villages for centuries, making it one of Greece's most authentic rural regions.

The region produces exceptional local honey, herbs, and wool products due to its mountain pastures and traditional shepherding culture.
