Kakheti is Georgia's easternmost wine region and produces roughly 60% of the country's wine, with some vineyards tracing winemaking back over 8,000 years.

The region's signature qvevri wine-making method—fermenting in buried clay vessels—was recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2001.

Sighnaghi, Kakheti's hillside town, features a 3 km defensive wall built in the 18th century and offers panoramic views across the Alazani Valley.

Kakheti experiences a continental climate with warm, dry summers ideal for viticulture, but winters can be cold enough to occasionally freeze the Alazani River.

The region is home to Alaverdi Monastery, founded in the 6th century by Saint Nino, and its bell tower stands 50 meters tall—one of Georgia's tallest religious structures.
