Things to Do in Vic Falls

Victoria Falls is the world's largest waterfall by volume, discharging up to 10 million cubic metres of water per minute during peak flood season.

The falls were named by Scottish explorer David Livingstone in 1855, though local Koisan people called it 'Mosi-oa-Tunya' (The Smoke That Thunders) centuries before.

The spray from Victoria Falls can be seen from up to 40 kilometres away and rises up to 400 metres into the air, earning it the nickname 'The Smoke That Thunders'.

Vic Falls town sits on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, with the falls straddling both countries and accessible from either side.

The town developed as a railway station in the 1900s after Cecil Rhodes's British South Africa Company arrived, and the historic railway bridge completed in 1905 remains an iconic landmark.

White-water rafting on the Zambezi River below the falls is rated among Africa's most thrilling adventure activities, with Grade IV–V rapids.
