Things to Do in Fes

Fes is home to the University of Al Quaraouiyine, founded in 859 CE, which is the world's oldest continuously operating university.

The Fes medina (old city) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the largest car-free urban areas in the world, with over 9,400 narrow alleyways.

Fes is famous for its leather tanneries, where hides have been dyed using the same traditional methods and natural pigments for over 1,000 years.

The city sits at an altitude of 410 meters (1,345 feet) in the foothills of the Middle Atlas Mountains, giving it a cooler, fresher climate than lowland Moroccan cities.

Fes was the capital of Morocco for nearly 500 years during the Marinid dynasty (1250–1554) and remains one of the country's four imperial cities.
