About this activity

Escape Palermo's crowds and discover southern Sicily's raw coastal beauty in a single day: red-sand beaches, dramatic white cliffs, and hidden coves largely untouched by mass tourism. This expedition combines swimming, hiking, and beachside dining to showcase the island's wildest, most photogenic shorelines.

Leave Palermo behind and spend the day exploring the wildest side of southern Sicily: red sand, white cliffs, empty beaches, raw landscapes, and a final dinner by the sea.

Your first stop is San Marco beach, near Sciacca, known for its striking red sand. The color of the coast here is intense, warm, and unusual, giving the landscape a completely different atmosphere from the typical Sicilian beach postcard. Have time to swim, walk, relax, and enjoy the first wild beach stop of the day.

Continue to Torre Salsa, one of the most beautiful natural coastal areas in Sicily. Think of it as the authentic, wilder version of Scala dei Turchi: white cliffs, clear water, open views, and no massive crowds around you. It is raw, spectacular, and wonderfully imperfect. No beach clubs, no tourist chaos, just nature doing its job properly for once.

After lunch, the expedition continues towards Punta Bianca, a stunning wild reserve with bright white cliffs facing the sea. This is one of the most photogenic coastal landscapes in Sicily: white rock, blue water, open sky, and a feeling of complete escape from the busy island. If you want incredible photos, this is the place.

A drone photo and video option is available on request, perfect if you want cinematic memories of the coastline, the cliffs, and the wild beaches from above.

As the day slows down, the experience becomes even more special. Lunch and dinner are included and will be enjoyed on the beach, followed by a relaxed evening fire by the sea. It is simple, atmospheric, and very Epic Sicily: good food, open air, salt on your skin, and the kind of summer evening that feels hard to repeat.

Highlights

  • Red sand beach at San Marco near Sciacca – unique geological feature rarely seen in Sicily
  • Torre Salsa natural reserve – white cliffs and pristine waters without the crowds of Scala dei Turchi
  • Punta Bianca – striking white limestone cliffs overlooking turquoise sea, ideal for photography
  • Lunch and dinner included, served on the beach with local cuisine
  • Optional drone photography service available for aerial coastline footage
  • Small-group format preserving the wild, undeveloped character of each location

Insider tips

  • Bring a good camera or smartphone with ample storage; the three beaches offer distinct photogenic backdrops, especially Punta Bianca at golden hour
  • Wear reef shoes or water sandals – the white cliffs terrain can be rocky; red sand at San Marco is softer but swimming access may vary by tide
  • Request the drone upgrade in advance if you want aerial shots; ground-level photos alone won't capture the scale of the cliffs
  • The drive from Palermo is substantial (1.5–2 hours each way); arrive at meeting point well-rested if driving yourself, or confirm pickup details with the operator

Good to know

  • Duration: Full day (typically 8–10 hours including travel from/to Palermo)
  • What to bring: Swimwear, sun protection (SPF 50+), hat, light cover-up, water shoes, towel, and plenty of water – facilities are minimal at wild beaches
  • Meals: Lunch and dinner included; confirm any dietary requirements when booking
  • Group size: Small groups maintained to preserve the authentic, uncrowded experience
  • Physical demands: Moderate – expect walking on uneven cliff terrain and beach access; not suitable for severe mobility issues
