About this activity

An 8-hour full-day adventure combining cage diving with Great White Sharks in Gansbaai, whale watching in Hermanus, and wine tasting at a scenic coastal estate. This private tour maximizes South Africa's marine wildlife and landscape variety in a single immersive experience, with flexibility to fit in multiple stops based on timing.

It takes you to Gansbaai where you get to have a lifetime experience with the Great White Sharks. The drive all the way from Cape Town after the residential areas is very scenic with dramatic mountains and massive mountain ranges.

This product is unique in that while you are driving to have an experience with the Great White Sharks in Gansbaai you can also do whale watching in Hermanus. This you can do on your way back while relaxed. Travelers can be taken by our driver to Hermanus where they can do whale watching while they have lunch as the whales get so close to the restaurants.

Time permitting travelers can enjoy great wines at the famous Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate which is right by the roadside. This is an amazing place which is a small sheltered bay with jagged mountains in the backdrop. On the way back (time permitting) travelers can also see the African Penguins at Stony Point.

Then they drive back to Cape Town via one of the most scenic drives in the world.

Insider tips

  • Request an early departure to maximize whale season viewing (June–November) and ensure calm sea conditions for cage diving
  • Eat a substantial breakfast before diving; sea motion can cause nausea, and an empty stomach increases discomfort
  • Bring a waterproof camera or GoPro for cage diving shots; professional onboard photography may incur extra fees
  • Ask your driver to time the Hermanus stop around lunch for the best chance of whales visible near restaurant decks

Good to know

  • Bring layered clothing: ocean winds are cold year-round, even in summer; a waterproof jacket is essential
  • Cage diving involves getting wet; swimwear and a towel are recommended, though wetsuits are typically provided
  • Minimum fitness level required: you'll need to climb in/out of a cage and navigate a boat in potentially rough waters
  • Meeting point and exact pickup time will be confirmed 24 hours before; allow flexibility for weather-dependent schedule changes
  • Tour duration can vary based on sea conditions and wildlife activity; whale watching and penguin viewing are time-permitting additions
