1 / 6Seville Self-Guided Detective Murder Mystery Game
About this activity
Become a detective in Seville as you solve a Sherlock Holmes–themed mystery game using your smartphone. This self-guided, story-driven experience turns the city's streets into your crime scene, combining puzzle-solving with sightseeing at your own pace.
The trail starts at the Monumento a San Fernando in Seville and runs from there into the lanes of the old town. On foot you pass the cathedral, the walls of the Royal Alcázar of Seville and the narrow turns of the Barrio de Santa Cruz. It is a self-guided murder mystery game in which the streets stand in for the crime scene.
The old centre of Seville is dense and easy to cover on foot, with shade in the alleys around Santa Cruz on warm days, so families with children, friends, couples and colleagues can all take it at their own speed. A team is up to four people working from one phone, and a bigger group splits into several teams that play at the same time. Going out alone works too. No guide walks ahead of you and no departure is fixed, so you decide when to move on.
How to play
Getting started in Seville takes four steps.
- Book the City Game
- Check the instructions email
- Download the Loquiz app
- Start playing whenever you like
The case is the murder of Balthasar. You work through coded messages, photo tasks and statements from digital characters who each remember the evening differently. Near the Torre del Oro and on the way to the Archivo de Indias the story fills out, and the contradictions in the testimony start to show.
When several teams play at the same time the scores turn it into a contest, which makes it a practical teambuilding option as well as an afternoon out. Stop for a break, pick the case up again where you left it, and finish it somewhere in the streets of Seville.
