About this activity

Play starts at Banglamphu Square in Bangkok and moves into the lanes behind it. The route takes in Wat Bowonniwet Wihan, follows the older streets toward Phra Sumen Fort by the riverside and loops back through the blocks in between. It is an outdoor escape game, so what matters is what stands in front of you: a plaque, a doorway, the pattern painted on a wall.

This quarter of Bangkok is walkable in a way the rest of the city is not, though the heat sets the pace and shaded stops are worth planning for. A team of two to five plays on one shared phone, and every member is given a character with a role of their own, so puzzles get solved by comparing notes. Groups above five split into separate teams with a phone each. No guide, no scheduled departure, and no set order to your breaks.

How to play

Setup happens on your phone, and you can do all of it before you leave your hotel.

  1. Book the City Game
  2. Check the instructions email
  3. Download the Loquiz app
  4. Start playing whenever you like.

The case concerns Magnus and a set of stolen formulas he moved through this district. Following him means breaking codes, solving riddles and shooting photo tasks, with each character holding a piece the others need, as the trail runs past Wat Chana Songkhram and up to the National Gallery. A later step turns on something small at the Coin Museum, easy to miss entirely.

Send several teams out at the same time and it becomes a contest, which is why the format works for colleagues as well as for families and groups of friends. There is no clock, so you can pause in the shade, eat, and start again when everyone is ready. The finish leaves you in the older half of Bangkok.
