1 / 6Secrets of Leuven Self-Guided Scavenger Hunt & Walking Tour
About this activity
A smartphone-based self-guided exploration game that transforms Leuven's historic centre into an interactive puzzle trail. Navigate GPS-marked locations while solving riddles, completing photo tasks, and uncovering local history and hidden stories unknown to most residents.
Secrets of Leuven is a self-guided walking tour that turns the city centre into a trail of puzzles. You start on the Grote Markt and from there the game leads you through the surrounding streets and squares. Each stop asks you to work something out before it tells you what you are looking at. Along the way it plays like a scavenger hunt through Leuven, with something to find at every stop.
Students, families, visiting friends and colleagues on an away day all play it the same way. A team of up to four shares one phone, so a big group divides into several teams walking the same route. Playing on your own is fine. Since no guide is involved and no time is fixed, you can fit it around the rest of your day in Leuven.
How to play
Getting on the trail in Leuven takes four steps.
- Book the Exploration Game
- Check the instructions email
- Download the Loquiz app
- Start playing whenever you like
The route mixes riddles, questions and photo tasks that push you to look up at facades, courtyards and corners you would otherwise walk straight past. Rather than delivering a lecture, the game feeds you facts about the buildings and neighbourhoods as you reach them. By the end you have covered a good part of the old centre on foot.
Playing with more than one team makes it a competition, with points for each solved task and a leaderboard to compare afterwards, which is why it is also used for team building. You can break off for a drink and continue where you stopped. It is a low-effort way to see a different side of Leuven.

Who it's for
Best time to visit
Visit in late spring (May–June) or early autumn (September–October) when Leuven's weather is mild and the city is less crowded. Avoid midday summer heat and winter rain; morning starts give you the best light for photo tasks and fewer tourists at landmarks.
