About this activity

Chase whales, dolphins, and puffins under Iceland's endless midnight sun from a nimble RIB boat departing Reykjavík's Old Harbour. This intimate 2-hour summer adventure combines close wildlife encounters with dramatic coastal views and a scenic return past the iconic Harpa Concert Hall.

What better to fully experience the uniqueness of those bright Icelandic summer nights than out on the waters in the midnight sun. Experience the wildlife and nature adventure of a lifetime on our most personal whale watching tour.

Available: 1 June - 20 August

Departure: 20:00 / 8PM

Duration: 2 hrs.

Our custom made RIB boats allow you to get closer the whales and puffins than any boats can offer. These fast, stable and safe boats also allow us to cover more area as we search for the wild life, thus increasing your chances of spotting whales, dolphins and birdlife.

This great whale watching tour starts from the old harbour of Reykjavík and we first visit the puffins in their natural habitat on the islands in the bay. Next we head out in search of the whales. Few things will beat the experience of seeing the whales and dolphins as up close as you can from our RIB boats. After our whale safari we travel back to Reykjavík, where we will take ride along the cities shore line, viewing it from the sea. Including a stop at the harbour side of Iceland's most famous building, the glittering Harpa Concert Hall.

Insider tips

  • Book well in advance for summer departures; midnight sun tours fill quickly in June and July.
  • Bring waterproof layers and secure any loose items—RIB boats are exposed and spray is common even on calm days.
  • The 20:00 departure means bright daylight photography conditions; position yourself on the port or starboard side early for best whale-spotting angles.
  • Whale sightings are common but never guaranteed; ask crew about recent sightings before departure to manage expectations.

Good to know

  • Minimum 2 passengers required; solo bookings may be rescheduled or refunded if insufficient numbers.
  • Not suitable for passengers 65+, pregnant women, or those with heart/back conditions; RIB boats involve standing and active movement.
  • Minimum height 145 cm required; you must fit into provided protective overalls.
  • Bring waterproof jacket, warm layers, hat, and sunscreen (midnight sun = continuous UV exposure).
  • Tour operates 1 June–20 August only; departs at 20:00 (8 PM) from Reykjavík Old Harbour.
