About this activity

A 5-day private family adventure combining Iceland's most iconic natural wonders—geysers, waterfalls, tectonic sites, and the Blue Lagoon—with flexible activity options like horseback riding, ATV exploration, or lava cave tours. Perfect for families seeking personalized, in-depth access to Iceland's geological and cultural heritage without the crowds of group tours.

DAY 1

Airport Pickup and transfer to hotel. A short Reykjavík sightseeing.

DAY 2

HORSE BACK RIDING, ATV OR LAVA CAVE EXPLORATION

BRIDGE BETWEEN TWO CONTINENTS

The Bridge Between Continents is a small footbridge over a major fissure, which is formed by tectonics and rifting of the two continental plates, Eurasian and North American plates, from each other.

REYKJANES LIGHTHOUSE AND CLIFFS

After passing the Reykjanesviti lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse in Iceland, we drive towards the sea where we enjoy a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean, high cliffs and black rock formations.

BLUE LAGOON

Blue Lagoon is one of the best natural spas in the world. The history of the Blue Lagoon can be traced back to 1976 when a reservoir was formed in Svartsengi from the work of the Geothermal Power Plant Svartsengi. People discovered that the soil had a positive effect on the skin, especially for those suffering from psoriasis skin disease. Since then the Blue Lagoon has become one of the world’s most amazing baths and spas in the world.

DAY 3

THINGVELLIR NATIONAL PARK.

Thingvellir is characterized by tectonic rift valley and marks the rifting of the Eurasian and North American plates from each other. In 930 the Icelandic Parliament, the first democracy in the world, was established at Thingvellir. Thingvellir became a World Heritage Site in 2004. We walk to Öxarárfoss waterfall.

STROKKUR AND THE GEYSER AREA.

You probably did not know that the english name “geyser”, derives from the one and only in the Haukadalur area. The geyser Geysir itself erupts boiling water up to 70 meters, but is almost inactive. Strokkur, only few meters apart from Geyser, erupts on average every 4 minutes.

GULLFOSS, GOLDEN WATERFALL.

Near Geysir is the beautiful Gullfoss Waterfall. Enjoy the view from above and walk down the path to get close to the powerful waterfall.

FRIÐHEIMAR.

At Friðheimar greenhouse, tomatoes are cultivated, using geothermal heat and geothermally generated electricity. With a tropical climate inside, they have opened a restaurant, right there in the tomato field. The main ingredients in their menu are, of course, tomatoes grown there. This is a very rare and unique lunch experience.

SECRET LAGOON.

Secret Lagoon is a natural geothermal bath, where you bath in raw nature and relax at the end of the day.

DAY 4

REYKJAVÍK SIGHTSEEING AND PERLAN MUSEUM

WHALE AND PUFFIN WATCHING AND WHALE MUESUM

DAY 5

AIRPORT DROPOFF

Highlights

  • Soak in the Blue Lagoon, one of the world's premier geothermal spas with skin-healing mineral-rich waters
  • Walk between two continents at the Bridge Between Continents, straddling the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates
  • Explore Þingvellir National Park, site of the world's first parliament (930 AD) and a UNESCO World Heritage zone
  • Witness Strokkur geyser and the geothermal hot spring area in real-time eruption
  • Visit Reykjanesviti, Iceland's oldest lighthouse, with dramatic Atlantic Ocean cliffs and black lava formations
  • Choose your own adventure: horseback riding, ATV off-roading, or guided lava cave exploration

Insider tips

  • Book your Blue Lagoon slot for late afternoon or early evening when crowds thin and light is best for photos
  • Wear layers even in summer—Iceland's weather shifts rapidly, and wind chill on exposed tectonic plateaus is real
  • If choosing horseback riding on Day 2, request a calm horse if unfamiliar with riding; local stables know family-friendly matches
  • Strokkur erupts every 5–10 minutes; position yourself upwind to avoid spray but close enough to feel the ground rumble

Good to know

  • Airport pickup and hotel transfer included on Day 1; confirm hotel details at booking
  • All activities are private (no group mixing), so timing is flexible within the 5-day window
  • Blue Lagoon entry, geothermal spa facilities, and basic gear (towel, robe option) are included; swimsuit required
  • Lava cave, ATV, and horseback riding require moderate fitness; children under ~8 may need adult supervision or alternative activities
  • Bring waterproof jackets, sturdy walking shoes, and sunscreen; Iceland's UV reflects off water and lava

Who it's for

Families with children aged 8+ seeking personalized, activity-rich experiences without group-tour schedulesGeology and nature enthusiasts interested in tectonic processes, geysers, and volcanic landscapesCouples or groups wanting private access to Iceland's Golden Circle and Reykjanes PeninsulaWellness-focused travellers combining adventure with relaxation (Blue Lagoon spa component)

Best time to visit

June–August offers long daylight hours (nearly 24-hour daylight in peak summer), warmest temperatures, and all activity options reliably available. Winter tours are possible but involve shorter daylight, unpredictable weather, and fewer horseback/ATV slots; visit in summer for maximum flexibility and family comfort.
