Make the most of a Shanghai layover with a guided 8-hour immersion covering the city's iconic waterfront, classical gardens, and colonial heritage. Your private guide handles airport transfers and curates visits to four distinct neighbourhoods—the Bund, Yu Garden, Nanjing East Road, and Xintiandi—showcasing Shanghai's layered history from traditional Chinese design to French colonial architecture.
From 8 am to 2 pm, our guide will pick you up from Shanghai airport (either Pudong or Hongqiao Airport) as per your flight information, then drive to Shanghai city centre. You will visit the well-known Bund which is situated beside the Huangpu River with many old buildings. It is a nice experience to walk beside the river to view the modern and old constructions here.
Nanjing East Road is near the bund, where you will view the shopping malls, the local food restaurants, hotels, and square etc.
Yu Garden used to be a family garden and is well-preserved with its impressive Chinese houses, garden, and layout. It is also nice to wander around in the bazaar outside the Yu Garden.
Xintiandi used to be the French Concession over 100 years ago. Today there are many bars, restaurants, museums, and galleries in these European buildings. You will visit here with your local guide to learn the history about it.
Later you will be transferred back to Shanghai airport to catch your next flight, where the wonderful layover day tour concludes.
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) offer mild temperatures and clearer skies ideal for riverside and street walking. Summer (June–August) is hot and humid; winter (December–February) is cooler but grey. Visit early in your layover to maximise daylight and avoid time pressure.
