1 / 10Traverse Madeira's most iconic levada (irrigation channel walk) through ancient laurel and heather forests, where dramatic interplays of light and shadow create a mesmerising natural corridor. This 7-hour journey delivers some of the island's most celebrated viewpoints, including panoramic vistas of Porto da Cruz village and the distinctive Penha d'Aguia rock formation.
This is probably the best known levada on the island of Madeira. Along this walk, you will have the opportunity to appreciate the contrast between light and shadow, which will appear through the laurel and heather and will keep you always involved during the journey. Near the Lamaceiros you will have the opportunity to enjoy breathtaking views of the village of Porto da Cruz and Penha D'Aguia. A magnificent tour not to be missed!
Visit October to April for cooler temperatures and clearer visibility; avoid summer (July–August) when crowds peak and heat intensifies. Early morning departures offer the best light and fewer hikers on the trail.
