This 8-hour immersion combines land and river exploration with local markets, temples, and a long-tail boat cruise through one of Southeast Asia's most historically significant crossings.
This full day tour will have you collected from your hotel in Chiang Rai and driven to town of Mae Sai and the Thai-Burma trading border. Crossing the Sai River you'll now find yourself across the border in Tha Chilek witnessing local Burmese life.
A rickshaw will assist you to explore Tha Chilek and its Shan style temple. Then ride around the town through lanes and side streets ending at a local market, famous for products from Southern China, Burma and Laos.
Lunch will be at a local restaurant.
This fascinating day will continue onto the Golden Triangle area, where the borders of three countries meet. Take a long-tailed boat trip around the Golden Triangle to view the splendour where the mighty Mae Khong River joins the Ruak River to form the “triangle” where Laos, Burma, and Thailand converge.
Return to your hotel at around 4.00pm.
Visit during November to February when temperatures are cooler (60–75°F) and the Mekong's water level is lower, making boat navigation and riverbank visibility optimal. Avoid rainy season (May–October) when river conditions are less predictable.
