1 / 10Discover Vitosha Mountain's most iconic natural features on this 8-hour guided hike from Sofia, combining the dramatic Golden Bridges (Bulgaria's largest stone river), a refreshing waterfall visit, and summit views from Kamendel Peak. Perfect for day-trippers seeking accessible yet rewarding mountain scenery just outside the capital.
Spend a refreshing day in the beautiful nature of Vitosha Mountain, one of the most accessible and scenic mountains in Bulgaria. This guided day tour begins at the famous Golden Bridges, the largest “stone river” in the mountain and one of its most iconic natural landmarks. Our journey starts among impressive rivers of golden-colored granite boulders that stretch down the mountain slopes like a frozen waterfall.
After exploring the area and taking photos, we start our hike along well-marked forest paths.
The route continues through beautiful forests toward Momina Skala Hut. The trail is pleasant and moderately easy, offering viewpoints toward the Sofia Valley. Momina Skala is a cozy mountain hut and a perfect place for a short rest. Here visitors can enjoy a warm drink, and simply relax on the terrace while taking in the quiet mountain atmosphere. Sometimes the hut is not working, but again you can sit and relax.
From there we will continue to the spectacular Boyana Waterfall, the largest waterfall in Vitosha. The path gradually descends through shaded woodland and rocky terrain, making the journey both scenic and refreshing.
After the waterfall we will continue toward Kamendel Peak, one of the most scenic high points in the central ridge of Vitosha. From Kamendel the panorama stretches across the central ridges of Vitosha and on clear days offers stunning views of surrounding Bulgarian mountains. The open landscape and fresh mountain wind create a true high-mountain atmosphere just a short distance from the capital.
After that we will return back to the car from where will continue back to Sofia city. On the way down we will stop for short break at Kulata view point on the lower part of Vitosha. From here visitors can enjoy wide views of the city, the surrounding plains, and on clear days even distant mountain ranges on the horizon.
After this we will return back to the hotel.
Late May to September offers stable weather and full access to all trails and the mountain hut. Avoid winter months when snow and ice may close sections; early morning starts (7–8 am) beat afternoon crowds and provide optimal light at the Golden Bridges and summit viewpoints.
