1 / 6Montpellier Self-Guided Detective Murder Mystery Game
About this activity
Solve a Sherlock Holmes–themed murder mystery while exploring Montpellier's streets in this self-guided mobile game. Combining detective puzzles, hidden clues, and plot twists, it turns the city into an interactive playground where you uncover the case at your own pace.
The case opens by the Cour d'Appel in Montpellier and heads uphill from there. A short climb brings you to the Arc de Triomphe and out onto the Promenade du Peyrou, with the arches of the Aqueduc Saint-Clément in view, before the route turns back towards the Cathédrale Saint-Pierre. It is a murder mystery walking tour that you run yourself, at your own speed.
There is one real climb in Montpellier, up to the Peyrou, and the rest is a network of narrow streets that stays walkable for families with children, friends, couples and colleagues; solo players manage it as well. A ticket covers a team of up to four sharing one phone, and larger groups divide and buy more. No guide sets the pace and no start time is fixed, so you leave when everyone has arrived.
How to play
One app holds the case file, the map and the tasks.
- Book the City Game
- Check the instructions email
- Download the Loquiz app
- Start playing whenever you like
The subject is the murder of Balthasar. Coded messages, photo tasks and statements from digital characters arrive in turn, and the evidence surfaces in the busiest parts of town: on the Place de la Comédie, along the Esplanade Charles-de-Gaulle, near the doors of the Musée Fabre. Alibis come apart as the answers add up.
Play with several teams and Montpellier turns into a competition, with a final score to settle it, which is why groups use the game for teambuilding as well as for an afternoon out. Stop for a coffee, resume later, and finish the case in the streets of Montpellier.
