Experience world-class whale watching off Sri Lanka's southern coast, where blue whales are reliably spotted during peak season. This full-day excursion from Colombo combines a predawn boat expedition from the fishing village of Mirissa with expert guidance, lunch, and hotel transfers.
The south tip of Sri Lanka is the easiest place to see blue whales in a very short time. And especially Mirissa & Weligama areas are the well-known spotting places of the blue whales in the entire world.
Sperm whales, right whales, killer whales, whale sharks, turtles, and kinds of dolphins are also spotted in this part of the island all around the year whale watching near Mirissa. It depends on what month you are traveling. November through April is whale watching season.
If you are joining a tour between November and April, then we take a 1.5-hour drive to a village called Mirissa.
At 6:30 am, we take you whale-watching on a relatively large boat. Dolphins are also often seen in the area. The boat should return to Mirissa around 12:00 pm. We are then to take you for lunch nearby.
Afterward, we take you back to your hotel.
November through April is peak whale-watching season, with the calmest seas and highest sighting rates typically occurring December–March. Early morning departures (6:30 am) coincide with peak cetacean activity.
