An 8-day high-altitude trek through Morocco's remote Central High Atlas, summiting Mgoun (4,068m) and descending the dramatic Tassaout Canyon. This challenging expedition immerses you in isolated Berber valleys—Aït Bougmez, Aït Bowli, and Imerhane—rarely accessible outside summer months, where traditional mountain communities have carved thriving settlements into one of North Africa's most impenetrable terrain.
North of the Central High Atlas, where it is most impenetrable, where no road manages to cross it, stands a multitude of peaks whose altitude is around 4000 m: thus the M'Goun (4068 m) and Ouaougoulzat (3770 m)
At their feet, the Berber valleys Ait Bougmez, Ait Bowli and Imerhane isolated for a large part of the year by snow and difficult access are oases of prosperity in the middle of the austere mountains which protect them to infinity. Their inhabitants, proud craftsmen of an astonishing human landscape, built the most beautiful villages of the Atlas. In these mountains, sheltered from the heat of the plain, this hike allows you to discover a mountain people forgotten in sublime landscapes. You can climb M’Goun and descend Tassaout, a huge canyon that this river has dug at the foot of the M’Goun chain.
