About this activity

The starting point is the Centre municipal, a short walk from William Square in the heart of Luxembourg. The route moves from there to the Palais Grand-Ducal and the Cathédrale Notre-Dame, then out towards the edge of the plateau where the ground falls away. It is a self-guided walking tour written as a murder mystery, and you cover it on foot.

Luxembourg is built on two levels, so expect a descent and a climb back up, along with a few sets of steps; none of it is difficult, and families with children, friends, couples and colleagues all manage it, as do solo players. One ticket is a team of up to four sharing a phone, and larger groups take more tickets and split. No guide comes with you, no time is fixed, and there is no reason to hurry.

The case is the murder of Balthasar. Codes need cracking, photo tasks need finishing, and digital characters give evidence that will not survive being put side by side. The Casemates du Bock and the Pont Adolphe both feature, and the answers you get right take suspects off the list one at a time.

With several teams playing at once the route becomes a competition, which makes it a usable teambuilding format as well as a weekend outing. Stop for a break, come back to it, and finish the case in Luxembourg at whatever hour suits you.
