About this activity

Am Plan, the square in the old town of Koblenz, is where the case is handed over, with the Liebfrauenkirche standing just above it. The clues lead out through the lanes of the Altstadt and down towards the Deutsches Eck, where the Mosel runs into the Rhine. It is a detective game played on foot and without a guide, using the streets of Koblenz as the board.

The old town is flat and closely packed, and the walk to the water is short, so the route stays comfortable for families with children and for colleagues who did not dress for a hike. A team is up to four people sharing one phone; if you are with a larger group, take a ticket per team and let them run separately. Solo players do fine. Nothing is scheduled and no guide is waiting, so the hour is yours to pick.

The case is the murder of Balthasar. You break codes, complete photo tasks and collect statements from digital characters who each shade the truth a little. Beside the Basilica of St. Castor one of those statements is undercut by a detail you photographed earlier, and the route back past the Florinskirche is where the last gaps close.

With more than one team on the case it becomes a race to the correct name, which is why it works as a teambuilding activity as much as a day out. Pause for a drink by the water, take it up again later, and finish the investigation back in the middle of Koblenz.
