About this activity

Combine high-octane snowmobiling through pristine Arctic wilderness with intimate encounters at a working reindeer farm and husky sled station in Rovaniemi. This 6-hour adventure blends adrenaline, traditional Sámi culture, and animal interaction in Finland's iconic winter landscape.

Experience an action-packed arctic journey where you get to ride snowmobiles through stunning wilderness, meet enchanting reindeer, and energetic Alaskan Huskies.

Your experience begins with a meeting at our Safari Office or at our City Office, where you'll be greeted by your guide. You'll then gear up in warm winter overalls to ensure you're comfortable and protected during the ride. Next, we’ll check driving licenses for those who will be operating a snowmobile, followed by a safety briefing to go over important guidelines for a safe and enjoyable experience. Before setting off with the snowmobiles, your guide will give detailed driving instructions. After all the safety instructions are done, the real fun begins when it´s time to start your 1-hour long journey through stunning Arctic landscapes!

About halfway through, we’ll take a short break, giving you the chance to take some photos and switch drivers if you are traveling in pairs.

After the snowmobile journey, visit the husky and reindeers at Reindeer Manor, located about 20-minutes drive away from the center of Rovaniemi, where you can enjoy a 500m ride on your own reindeer sledge and receive a reindeer sledge driver’s license. Next, make your way to the Alaskan Huskies and experience them in action on a 500m long sleigh ride. Listen to the local reindeer herders as they tell you more about the herding lifestyle and how it is to be a reindeer herder in the 21st century.

This activity is perfect for families and beginners as the route will be tailored to your needs. This excursion is suitable for everybody, but adults require a valid driving license to drive a snowmobile. Children and adults without valid driver's licenses can join the safari comfortably seated on a sled behind the guide's snowmobile.

Insider tips

  • If travelling as a pair, you can switch snowmobile driving roles at the halfway break—great for sharing the experience
  • Reindeer Manor is 20 minutes outside central Rovaniemi; the drive time is already factored into the 6-hour duration, so plan for transport accordingly
  • Ask your guide about reindeer herding traditions specific to the Sámi people—they often share stories about modern challenges and seasonal migration

Good to know

  • Valid driving license required to operate a snowmobile; passport-style ID acceptable
  • Warm winter overalls and protective gear provided; wear thermal layers underneath and bring warm gloves/hat (standard winter gear sufficient)
  • Pickup from Safari Office or City Office in Rovaniemi; confirm meeting location and time at booking
  • Families with children welcome; check minimum age/height restrictions for snowmobile operation directly with operator

Best time to visit

Late November to early March offers reliable snow and dark-sky conditions ideal for snowmobiling; late December through early January sees minimal daylight (2–3 hours), so mid-winter visits suit those chasing the Arctic atmosphere, while December and February/March offer longer shooting light. Morning departures (8–10am) maximise daylight for photography.
