About this activity

Ascend São Paulo's highest peak through pristine Atlantic Forest on this 5-hour guided hike, reaching 1,135 meters for sweeping 360° views over Brazil's largest city. This is one of the last intact rainforest corridors within the metropolis, offering genuine biodiversity and escape just 40 minutes from downtown.

Outdoor enthusiasts will love hiking along the Atlantic Forest all the way up to São Paulo's highest peak where tourists can boast the most magnificent viewpoint in town in contrast with nature.

Going to Jaraguá state park 40 minutes away from downtown São Paulo, you will get a breath of fresh air and appreciate the endless São Paulo from different perspectives amidst one of the last remnants of Atlantic Forest in town.

The hike has the main target of reaching two lookouts where tourists have a 360 degree view of São Paulo, in a 1,135 meters altitude, surrounded by an incredible landscape.

The trail has 3,600 meters, round trip, is mostly in the shade, ranging from light to medium level of difficulty, only at the end becomes steeper. The mount's summit is about 90 minutes walk away from the park’s main entrance at a slow pace.

Animals, particularly small marmosets bounce around the trees, capuchin monkeys, toucans, sloths, and many others, can be seen during walks, lush landscapes.

Highlights

  • Hike to two scenic lookouts with panoramic city views from São Paulo's highest point
  • Spot wildlife including marmosets, capuchin monkeys, toucans, and sloths in their natural habitat
  • Trek 3.6 km (round trip) mostly shaded trail through protected Atlantic Forest
  • Experience light-to-medium difficulty with steeper final ascent to the summit
  • Reach the peak in ~90 minutes from park entrance at a leisurely pace

Insider tips

  • Start early to maximize wildlife spotting and avoid afternoon crowds; early morning is prime time for capuchin monkeys and birds
  • Wear sturdy hiking boots with good grip—the final push to the summit has steep, rooty sections despite mostly gentle grades elsewhere
  • Bring binoculars to spot toucans and other canopy birds without disturbing them; the shade canopy is dense so good visibility matters

Good to know

  • 5-hour total duration includes hiking and time at viewpoints; pace is leisurely to appreciate the forest
  • Trail is mostly shaded but exposed at the two lookout points—bring sun protection and a hat
  • Bring 1.5–2 liters of water, snacks, and a light rain jacket (Atlantic Forest can be humid and unpredictable)
  • Accessible from downtown São Paulo via 40-minute transfer; confirm meeting point and transport details with operator
