About this activity

Explore two iconic Algarve destinations on this 5-hour guided tour: Lagos, birthplace of Portuguese maritime exploration in the 15th century, and dramatic Sagres, home to Europe's southwestern cape. You'll combine guided highlights with free time to wander Lagos's historic streets and enjoy a sunset at Cape St. Vincent.

Lagos is a city from which Infante D. Henrique left in the 15th century with his caravels, starting the Portuguese Discoveries.

In lagos you will 2 hours free to enjoy and discover this beautiful city. You will have the chance to visit its most emblematic monuments such as the Church of Santo António, with its interior covered with gilded carvings and tiles.

Then we will be heading toward Ponta da Piedade, a natural monument in the Algarve with its magnificent rock formations.

A panoramic tour over the village and Sagres, Porto da Baleeira, Praia da Marreta and Fortaleza de Sagres (stop for photos in Porto da Baleeira).

At Cape St. Vicente fortress with its 28 m high lighthouse, you will see the most where we will wait for the most breathtaking sunset in the Algarve.

Highlights

  • 2 hours free exploration of Lagos's historic old town and colourful fishing harbour
  • Church of Santo António with intricate gilded wood carvings and blue azulejo tiles
  • Ponta da Piedade's otherworldly ochre cliff formations and sea caves
  • Cape St. Vincent lighthouse (28 m high) at Europe's southwestern tip
  • Sagres fortress and coastal viewpoints including Porto da Baleeira
  • Sunset viewing from one of the Algarve's most dramatic vantage points

Insider tips

  • Arrive early in Lagos to explore the atmospheric cobbled streets, local markets, and lesser-known viewpoints before the afternoon crowds build
  • Wear comfortable walking shoes with grip for cliff paths, especially around Ponta da Piedade and Cape St. Vincent
  • The sunset at Cape St. Vincent is best viewed 30–45 minutes before actual sunset; bring a light jacket as Atlantic winds are cool even in summer
  • Skip the touristy cafés in central Lagos; locals eat near the fish market or climb to the quieter streets above the harbour

Good to know

  • Duration includes all stops and drive time; free time in Lagos is typically 2 hours, leaving ~3 hours for panoramic stops and travel
  • Bring sun protection (hat, SPF, sunglasses), water, and a camera for cliff and lighthouse views
  • Operates year-round; minivan or coach transport depending on group size; pickup/drop-off location in Albufeira confirmed at booking
  • Limited mobility access on cliff paths and fortress terrain; stairs and uneven surfaces present at most stops
