About this activity

Explore three extraordinary natural attractions in a single day: the cathedral-like Prohodna Cave with its dramatic 'Eyes of God' skylights, the intricate passages of Saeva Dupka, and Bulgaria's unique Blue Ostrich Farm. This private 9-hour journey combines geological wonder, wildlife encounters, and scenic countryside immersion from Sofia.

After the pick-up in Sofia around 9:00 AM, head to Saeva Dupka, with 400 meters of corridors and 5 galleries. Explore the hidden wonders of one of the strangest caves in Bulgaria.

On your way to the first cave visit "The Blue Ostriches" (Village of Brestnitsa) ostrich farm and learn a little bit more about the life and times of Bulgarian ostriches.

Move on to Prohodna cave, currently the most famous cave in Bulgaria. See how it is naturally illuminated by two huge openings in the ceiling, inspiring the cave's local name, Eyes of God Cave. Explore the entrances, including a 45-meter entrance, the largest in Bulgaria. The expected return to Sofia is at about 6 pm.

Most times the trips are done with eco-friendly cars - with CNG engines or electro mobiles so that we can help fight the air pollution.

Insider tips

  • Bring a camera with good low-light capability—the natural light effects in Prohodna are most photogenic mid-morning when sunlight streams through the 'Eyes'
  • Wear sturdy, closed-toe hiking shoes with grip; cave floors can be uneven and damp
  • Ask your guide about the geological formations as you walk—the cave systems reveal millions of years of karst geology
  • The ostrich farm visit is brief but engaging; interact respectfully with birds and ask about their diet and farm history

Good to know

  • Approximately 9 AM pickup from Sofia hotels; return around 6 PM
  • Wear layers—caves maintain cool, stable temperatures year-round (around 10–12°C)
  • Bring water, snacks, and sun protection for outdoor transitions between sites
  • Cave paths involve some walking and uneven terrain; not wheelchair-accessible inside caves
  • Private tour means no large group crowding; confirm group size at booking
