About this activity

Spend a full day exploring two pivotal chapters of South African history: Robben Island, where political prisoners including Nelson Mandela were held during apartheid, and Langa Township, one of Cape Town's oldest Black residential areas. This immersive cultural experience combines sobering historical insight with authentic community interaction and local hospitality.

The day commences with the Robben Island ferry trip and guided tour. Robben Island is a symbol of triumph of the human spirit over adversity. During the apartheid years it served as a prison for political activists.

The cultural day continues with a guided visit to Langa Township. Experience the tongues of 11 different languages, insight and interaction with diverse cultures and communities. A Shebeen “beer” tasting is included from 2pm. This tour will make you realise that Mzansi is the place to be!
