Description
A half-day afternoon trip from Athens full of images and breathtaking views. Begin your Sounio tour with a wonderful drive along the scenic coastal road which affords a splendid view of the Saronic Gulf, passing through some of Athens most beautiful suburbs (Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, Varkiza) and idyllic beaches.
As you approach Cape Sounion, one of Greece’s most photographed monuments, it rises like a sheer cliff out of the sea. At Cape Sounio where you will visit the 5th century B.C. Temple of Poseidon with one of the most breathtaking panoramic views in the world (on a clear day you can see at least seven islands). The precipice is a sheer 197-foot drop to the sea.
Landmasses to the west stand out in sharp profile: the island of Aegina backed by the mountains of the Peloponnese. The beauty of the surviving Doric columns has inspired many poets, including Lord Byron who carved his name on one of the columns. This half-day excursion is a great option if you want to discover Greece beyond Athens, enjoy stunning views and visit world-famous Greek ruins.

- Keeping you safe (COVID-19 measures):
- Our staff is trained in the latest hygiene protocols and cleaning procedures. They use personal protective equipment (face masks/shields and optional gloves) and their temperature/wellness will be monitored daily to ensure a safe travel experience for you.
- Buses are filled to only 50% of their capacity and the number of buses used is increased. The average cleaning time is doubled both during the day and after the end of the tour at night. In addition, all sensitive touch areas such as seats, armrests, sidewalls, overhead bins, etc. are intensively cleaned and sanitized.
- The air inside the bus is, on average, completely renewed every 3 minutes during cruise time. All Setra 515 buses in our fleet are equipped with HEPA/CARBON filters (High-Efficiency Particulate Arrestors), which capture more than 99% of even microscopic bacteria and viruses. Moreover, sanitizing dispensers are available at each door.
- Whisper audio devices will be given to all our travellers to keep social distance guidelines which are sanitized thoroughly both from our staff but also inside the charging cases with UVC lights.

Legendary
The majestic temple of Poseidon is a unique sight especially due to its position at the extreme end of a cliff that stands at the edge above the sea. You can only imagine the views on a clear summer day but eh, maybe next time. The ride was equally impressive as we drove right through quiet villages, next to the sea on one side and the greek countryside on the other. Must come back.
Go for it, well priced and stunning views
Didn't really believe that we would get so much on less than 50 euros, wow ! Guide was great, the scenery absolutely stunning (couldn't believe that such an urban place can have such lovely spots), the history can be fascinating sometimes ....they picked us up, great service, showed us around (small group we were, 15-16 people) and all cool, thanks ! I never do 5 star, habit...
Athens is much more than an urban place
Highly recommended, the coastal road drive and the antiquities next to the sea front together with the stories of Aegean and Poseidon and the ancient Greek myths made it a real fun trip, possibly the best we had during our stay in Athens. Time is good too as not too hot.. the guide was very informative, perhaps more than we would need :-), great time, thanks daytrip!
