About this activity

Combine Madeira's dramatic landscapes, wine heritage, and marine wildlife in a single full-day adventure. Travel by open-roof 4×4 through volcanic terrain and vineyards, taste five wines from local producers, stand on Europe's highest cliff (580m) via its glass skywalk, then spot dolphins and whales from a catamaran along the south coast.

From Funchal we drive to Serra d'Agua, a valley at the center of the island. After passing this area, we go off-road meeting fantastic views over the north of the island (Porto Moniz, Ribeira da Janela, Paúl da Serra and São Vicente). Then, you will have an unforgettable experience with the main wine producers in Madeira, followed by a guided tour through the largest vineyards along with a wine tasting (1 rose, 2 white, 2 red- included) and a professional explanation about traditions, wine culture and wine production. From this fabulous experience, we will continue our tour to one of the most visited places on the island, Cabo Girão, the highest cliff in Europe and second in the World (580 meters), known by its suspended glass floor viewpoint, which offers a spectacular panoramic view over the Atlantic, Câmara de Lobos and Funchal. A perfect tour for nature and wine lovers.

After the Jeep tour, our guests will be dropped off at Funchal’s Harbor to start the Dolphin & Whale Watching Trip. Come on board on the Catamaran for a relaxing trip along the south coast of Madeira. The boat trip takes 3 hours with strong possibilities of watching Dolphins & Whales in their natural habitat. During the trip, the crew will give you detailed information about the cetacean species that you are able to see.In the summer months there is the possibility of swimming below Cabo Girao cliff. In case you don’t see any cetaceans, we offer a second boat trip. This trip ends in Funchal’s Harbor.

Highlights

  • Off-road drive through Serra d'Água valley with panoramic north-coast views
  • Guided vineyard tour with 5-wine tasting (rosé, white, red) and production insights
  • Cabo Girão glass skywalk — Europe's highest cliff at 580 metres
  • 3-hour dolphin and whale-watching catamaran cruise
  • Summer option: swim beneath Cabo Girão cliffs
  • Guarantee: free re-booking if no cetaceans spotted

Insider tips

  • Book summer departures for the chance to swim off Cabo Girão and higher cetacean sighting odds
  • Wear layers and bring a waterproof jacket — mountain weather changes rapidly and sea spray is inevitable on the catamaran
  • Arrive early at Funchal Harbour (transition point between jeep and boat) to settle in without rushing
  • Cetacean sightings peak in early morning; be patient and scan the horizon actively rather than relying solely on crew spotters

Good to know

  • Total duration: 8 hours (jeep tour + 3-hour boat cruise); plan a full day
  • Open-roof 4×4 means sun exposure and wind — sunscreen and sunglasses essential; warm layers for altitude
  • Pickup from Funchal; transfer to harbour mid-tour for boat departure
  • Guaranteed second boat trip at no cost if no dolphins or whales are sighted on first attempt
  • Catamaran is stable but open-air; not ideal for severe motion sickness sufferers

Who it's for

Wine enthusiasts and food lovers exploring Portuguese terroirNature and wildlife photographers hunting dolphins, whales, and coastal dramaActive couples and small groups seeking multi-activity full-day itinerariesAdventure seekers comfortable with open vehicles and boat travel

Best time to visit

Visit May–September for warmest seas, calmest conditions, and highest cetacean activity; summer months unlock the swimming option below the cliff. Winter is quieter but rainfall and rougher seas reduce whale sightings and skywalk comfort.
