1 / 10Blue Ice Cave Adventure
About this activity
Venture into Iceland's ethereal blue ice caves within Vatnajökull, Europe's largest glacier, on a guided 3-hour expedition departing from Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Expert guides lead small groups through luminous ice formations carved by meltwater, combining remote highland scenery with one of Iceland's most otherworldly natural wonders.
Come with us to an adventurous trip, off the beaten path, to experience the forces of Icelandic nature. We depart from The Glacier Lagoon every day at 9 am and 2 pm, driving approximately an hour off road to Iceland’s largest glacier, Vatnajokull. During the scenic drive in special Super Jeeps we will see the best of Icelandic highlands.
When we arrive to the ice caves, we will provide you with the right equipment and guide you as we enter the magical blue caves. Our guides are very professional, experienced and know the caves inside out, so you are in safe hands. We will guide you through the blue ice caves and take some magical photos.
After approximately and hour exploring the caves we will hop into the Super Jeep again and drive back to Jökulsárlón.

Insider tips

Good to know

- •All safety gear (helmets, crampons) included; guides equip and brief you before entry
- •Approximately 1 hour of actual cave exploration after the 1-hour drive
- •Off-road terrain requires vehicles with high clearance; standard cars cannot access the glacier
- •Not suitable for mobility issues; caves involve climbing, stepping, and uneven icy terrain
Who it's for
Best time to visit
Visit September to March for optimal blue ice visibility (summer melt dims the colour). Morning departures (9 am) offer the clearest light and least atmospheric haze for photography and colour intensity.
