About this activity

Chase the Aurora Borealis across Rovaniemi's pristine Arctic wilderness on a guided snowmobile adventure, venturing far from light pollution to maximise your chances of witnessing the Northern Lights. The 4-hour experience combines the thrill of winter driving with an atmospheric break featuring a fireside BBQ in the heart of the Lapland forest.

Try this Northern Lights tour into the Lappish wilderness by Snowmobile! In this 3-hour driving, you will be taken by snowmobile through the dark arctic night to places where the light pollution can’t reach you! Sausages Bbq and juice will be provided!

This 3-hour Northern Light Hunting Tour tour by snowmobile will take you deeper into the wonderful winter landscape of the Arctic circle in order to chase the Auroras!

Let our guide lead you on a different kind of snowmobile adventure in the nearly unlit nature, where only moonlight, stars, and snowmobile light systems will light your way. In the middle of the wilderness, we will have a break to look at the sky. You will be surrounded by forests and lakes that are rising like mysterious shadows towards the night sky and drive the snowmobile through the snow-covered landscapes.

The guide will prepare an open fire for you to warm up, and you can enjoy warm refreshments, grill sausages, and wait for the Northern Lights to show up and dance for us in the night sky. If we are lucky and the sky is clear, we might see the flaming northern lights dancing in the sky while we experience the silence!

This excursion suits best for adults, but also children can join the safari sitting on a sledge under warm blankets. Note the late time of the excursion!

Highlights

  • Ride a snowmobile deep into darkness-optimised viewing zones away from city lights
  • Warm up by an open fire with grilled sausages and hot beverages mid-tour
  • Navigate snow-covered forests and frozen lakes under starlight and moonlight
  • Expert guide reads atmospheric conditions and adjusts route to improve Aurora visibility
  • Suitable for families—children can travel in heated sledges with blankets

Insider tips

  • Book during peak Aurora season (late September to March) when nights are longest and skies clearest
  • Dress in extreme-weather layers even if you think you're warm enough—Arctic temperatures drop significantly during night stops
  • The late departure time (evening/night) is intentional; this is a Northern Lights hunt, not a scenic daytime tour

Good to know

  • Duration is 4 hours total, including ~3 hours of snowmobile riding and a fireside rest with refreshments
  • Winter clothing and thermal gear essential; check supplier guidance on footwear for snowmobile operation
  • Children welcome but must travel in sledges towed behind the guide's snowmobile, not as independent riders
  • Northern Lights sightings depend entirely on weather and solar activity—clear skies are not guaranteed

Who it's for

Adventure seekers and nature photographers chasing the Northern LightsFamilies with children looking for a memorable Arctic experienceCouples seeking a romantic outdoor adventure in winterTravellers new to snowmobiling who want guided instruction and support

Best time to visit

Late September through March offers the longest, darkest nights required for Aurora visibility. Clear skies and low cloud cover are critical—mid-winter (December–February) typically provides the longest viewing windows, though cloud cover can occur any night.
