About this activity

Escape Lisbon for a curated day exploring the dramatic cliffs and coastal beauty of Serra da Arrábida, culminating in a guided tasting at Portugal's iconic José Maria de Fonseca winery. This eight-hour immersion combines natural landscapes, historical viewpoints, and world-class Moscatel wines in one seamless experience.

Come and visit one of the most beautiful markets in Europe. Then we climbed to the highest point of Setúbal, the fort of São Filipe where we glimpse the magnificent view.
Departure for the Serra da Arrábida dazzle with the view of Portinho da Arrábida beach and the Portuguese Blue Coast.
We will stop at a traditional restaurant (optional).
Our last destination is the José Maria de Fonseca house where we will take a guided tour followed by Moscatel and Piriquita wine tasting.

Highlights

  • 360-degree views from 16th-century Forte de São Filipe overlooking Setúbal
  • Scenic drive through Serra da Arrábida with stops at Portinho da Arrábida beach
  • Guided tour and tasting of Moscatel and Piriquita wines at Portugal's oldest wine estate
  • Optional traditional Portuguese lunch at a local restaurant
  • Expert commentary on Setúbal's maritime heritage and wine-making traditions

Insider tips

  • Visit in late morning to catch the best light at Forte de São Filipe before heading to the coast
  • The winery tasting pairs perfectly with local queijo da serra (mountain cheese) — ask your guide about food pairings
  • Wear comfortable walking shoes; the fort and winery involve gentle slopes and uneven terrain
  • Book the optional lunch in advance if travelling in summer; local restaurants fill quickly with tour groups

Good to know

  • Duration includes transport from Lisbon (approximately 45 minutes each way)
  • Price starts at EUR 450; lunch and wine purchases are additional
  • Small-group minivan or bus format; exact vehicle depends on group size
  • Bring sunscreen, hat, and water — coastal wind and sun exposure are significant
  • Limited shade at Forte de São Filipe; plan accordingly in peak summer
