About this activity

A 6-day camping safari across Kenya's most iconic reserves—Amboseli, Lake Nakuru, and Masai Mara—combining wildlife viewing, birdwatching, and mountain scenery from open-sided jeeps. This itinerary balances accessibility with authentic safari immersion, visiting three distinct ecosystems in one expedition.

This multi-day tour will visit Kenya’s best safari parks. Travel to the Great Rift Valley, Masai Mara Game Reserve, Lake Nakuru for bird watching, and Amboseli national park with a view of Mount Kilimanjaro. Spend 2 nights at  Amboseli National Park, then to Lake Nakuru for 1 night and then to Masai Mara for 2 nights, returning to Nairobi on the sixth day.

Highlights

  • Mount Kilimanjaro views from Amboseli National Park
  • Large elephant herds and big five sightings in Masai Mara Game Reserve
  • Lake Nakuru's flamingo colonies and diverse birdwatching opportunities
  • Great Rift Valley landscapes en route
  • Multiple game drives across varied terrain and habitats
  • Camping accommodation amid natural surroundings

Insider tips

  • Early morning and late afternoon game drives yield the best wildlife activity and photography light—confirm your guide's schedule on day one
  • Lake Nakuru's bird populations peak during regional migration seasons (November–March and June–September); request binoculars from your operator if you're serious about birding
  • Pack layers: Amboseli and Masai Mara mornings are cool despite daytime heat, and evening temperatures drop noticeably
  • The drive between parks spans several hours on varied roads; bring entertainment, snacks, and motion-sickness remedies if prone

Good to know

  • Camping accommodation is provided; bring personal toiletries, medications, and a torch/headlamp for nighttime movement
  • Open-sided jeeps expose you to sun, dust, and insects—sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and lightweight long sleeves are essential
  • Roads are unpaved in parks; expect bumpy rides and dust. Secure luggage and wear seatbelts where available
  • Park entry fees (typically USD 25–50 per park, per day) may be included or payable separately—clarify with your operator before booking
  • Mobile network coverage is limited in remote areas; inform contacts of your itinerary in advance

Who it's for

Wildlife photographers and safari enthusiasts seeking classic East African game reservesBirdwatchers targeting flamingos and rift valley avian speciesAdventure travellers comfortable with camping and unpaved roadsFamilies and groups wanting a structured, multi-park introduction to Kenya's ecosystems

Best time to visit

June to October (dry season) offers the best wildlife viewing as animals congregate at water sources and grass is short. December to February is also viable but hotter; avoid April–May (heavy rain) and November (transition season with unpredictable weather). Early morning departures maximize animal sightings.
