Did you know? Iguaçu Falls
Iguazú Falls straddles the border between Brazil and Argentina, with about 80% of the falls located on the Argentine side, making the Brazilian viewpoint uniquely positioned to capture the full panorama.
The falls consist of approximately 275 individual waterfalls arranged in a horseshoe shape, with the tallest cascade reaching about 82 metres (269 feet).
Iguazú means 'big water' in the Guaraní language, and the falls were formed around 130 million years ago through volcanic basalt flows.
The site became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986 and is one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature, recognised for its breathtaking scale and biodiversity.
The Iguazú National Park protects 185,000 hectares of Atlantic rainforest, home to jaguars, toucans, coatis, and over 2,000 plant species found nowhere else on Earth.
The Brazilian side offers the most spectacular wide-angle views of the falls, especially from the Cataratas do Iguazu visitor centre and the iconic bridge that spans the Iguazú River.
