Things to Do in San José del Cabo

San José del Cabo was founded in 1730 as a Jesuit mission and served as the original capital of the Baja California Sur peninsula before La Paz claimed the title.

The town sits at the convergence of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez, making it a prime fishing destination for striped marlin, dorado, and yellowfin tuna.

Every Thursday evening, San José del Cabo hosts an art gallery walk and farmers market in the historic town square (Plaza Teniente José María Morelos), showcasing local artists and organic produce.

The nearby Flora Farms restaurant pioneered the farm-to-table movement in Los Cabos, sourcing ingredients from its own organic farm in the foothills above the town.

San José del Cabo remains noticeably quieter and more authentic than its sister resort city Cabo San Lucas, located 20 miles southwest, preserving colonial architecture and genuine Mexican culture.
