Things to Do in Bath

Bath's Roman Baths, built around 70 AD, are among the best-preserved Roman remains north of the Alps and still flow with naturally heated thermal waters at 46°C.

The entire city centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its exceptional Georgian architecture, mostly built in the 18th century using the distinctive honey-coloured Bath stone.

Jane Austen lived in Bath for six years (1801–1806) and set two of her novels partly in the city, making it a major destination for literary tourists.

Bath sits on the River Avon in Somerset and is nicknamed the 'City of Stone' because of the uniform golden limestone used in nearly all its buildings.

The city was the UK's first spa resort, becoming fashionable in the 17th–18th centuries when aristocrats visited to bathe in the thermal springs believed to have healing properties.
