Things to Do in Portinho da Arrábida

Portinho da Arrábida sits at the foot of the Arrábida Mountains, a limestone range that plunges dramatically into the sea, creating one of Portugal's most scenic coastal backdrops.

The beach is a former fishing village turned protected natural area, now part of the Arrábida Natural Park established in 1976 to preserve its unique Mediterranean ecosystem.

The turquoise waters here are warmed by the Gulf Stream and remain calm year-round thanks to the mountains sheltering the cove from Atlantic swells.

A 16th-century convent sits atop the cliffs above the beach—the Convent of Arrábida—where monks once sought refuge in this remote coastal retreat.

The beach's pebbled shore and crystal-clear water make it a favourite spot for spearfishing and snorkelling, with visibility often exceeding 20 metres.
