Things to Do in Corleone, Sicily

Corleone is a real Sicilian town of about 11,000 people that became world-famous after Mario Puzo's novel, though the fictional Corleone family was not directly based on it.

The town sits in the Sicani Mountains of western Sicily, roughly 60 km south of Palermo, in an area historically known for wine production and agricultural heritage.

Corleone was founded in 1569 by the Spanish as a defensive settlement and named after the Norman knight Guglielmo Corleone, a real historical figure from the 13th century.

The town has become a major pilgrimage site for fans of The Godfather, with a small museum dedicated to the films and signs marking fictional locations from the story.

Corleone produces excellent Sicilian wines, particularly from indigenous grapes like Nero d'Avola and Grillo, and is part of several DOC wine regions.
