Things to Do in Höfn, Hornafjørdur

Höfn is Iceland's lobster capital, and the annual Humarhátið (Lobster Festival) in summer celebrates the local catch with food, music and cultural events.

The town sits at the edge of Vatnajökull National Park, home to Europe's largest glacier by volume, Vatnajökull, and dramatic outlet glaciers like Skaftafell.

Höfn's name means 'harbour' in Icelandic, and it's one of Iceland's most important fishing ports, historically and today.

The stunning black sand beach at Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, just 45 minutes away, features icebergs calved from Vatnajökull that drift in the lagoon before washing ashore.

Höfn was largely isolated until the Ring Road (Route 1) was completed around Iceland in 1974, transforming it from a remote settlement into an accessible tourist destination.
