Things to Do in Grindavik

Grindavik sits on the geothermally active Reykjanes Peninsula, where the Mid-Atlantic Ridge creates dramatic volcanic landscapes and hot springs.

The town is home to the Blue Lagoon, one of Iceland's most visited attractions, fed by nutrient-rich geothermal seawater that maintains a constant temperature of around 37–39°C.

Grindavik has been a fishing settlement since the 14th century and remains Iceland's second-largest fishing port by catch volume.

A major volcanic eruption began on the Reykjanes Peninsula in March 2021, with several eruptions since; the area remains geologically active.

The word 'Grindavik' means 'grinding bay' in Icelandic, named after the grinding sound waves make against the rocky shore.
