The Hungarian Parliament Building is the second-largest parliament building in the world by floor area, after only the Palace of Westminster in London.
Construction took 18 years (1885–1904) and required over 40 million bricks, making it one of Europe's most labour-intensive architectural projects of the era.
The building has 691 rooms, 29 staircases, and 10 courtyards, with the main dome rising 96 metres above the Danube riverbank.
The Crown of Saint Stephen, Hungary's most sacred symbol of sovereignty, is displayed under heavy guard in the Parliament's Dome Hall.
The Gothic Revival architecture was deliberately chosen to emphasize Hungary's medieval independence and cultural identity during the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
