Things to Do in Nuremberg

Nuremberg's Medieval Old Town was almost completely destroyed during World War II but has been meticulously reconstructed to look as it did in the 16th century.

The city is famous for Nuremberg sausages (Drei im Weggla), which are protected by EU law and must be made within the city limits and be shorter and thinner than other German sausages.

Nuremberg hosted the Reichsparteitage, the Nazi Party's massive annual rallies from 1927–1938, and later served as the site of the International Military Tribunal trials of Nazi leaders in 1945–1946.

The city's Christmas market, Christkindlesmarkt, is one of Europe's oldest and largest, running since the 16th century and attracting over 2 million visitors annually.

Albrecht Dürer, one of history's greatest Renaissance artists, was born and spent most of his life in Nuremberg; his former house is now a museum.

Nuremberg is one of Germany's oldest cities, first mentioned in historical records in 1050, and served as the unofficial capital of the Holy Roman Empire.
