Things to Do in Zadvarje

Zadvarje is a tiny Dalmatian village of around 300 residents, perched on a dramatic cliff 160 metres above the Adriatic Sea in Croatia's Makarska Riviera.

The village is built on a narrow peninsula surrounded by three sides of water, making it accessible only by a single winding coastal road carved into the cliff face.

Zadvarje sits directly above the mouth of the Cetina River canyon, one of Croatia's most spectacular natural features, popular for adventure sports like canyoning and kayaking.

The local Dalmatian cuisine features fresh seafood, and the village's restaurants source fish directly from boats moored in the cove below the settlement.

Zadvarje was largely isolated from modern tourism until the late 20th century due to its remote clifftop location and lack of direct highway access.

The village overlooks Aspalathos Bay, named after the ancient Roman settlement of Aspalathum (modern Split), visible along the coast on clear days.
