Things to Do in Kuwait City

Kuwait City's iconic Kuwait Towers (completed 1977) hold 37 million gallons of fresh water in their spheres and are visible from almost anywhere in the city.

The city was almost entirely rebuilt after the 1990–91 Gulf War, during which it was occupied for seven months, making modern Kuwait City one of the Middle East's newest capitals.

Kuwait has no rivers, lakes, or rainfall to speak of—the entire country relies on desalination plants, including massive facilities around Kuwait City, to produce drinking water.

The National Museum of Kuwait reopened in 2016 after a 25-year closure following war damage, housing one of the world's finest collections of Islamic art and Gulf heritage artefacts.

Kuwait City's seafront corniche stretches 40+ km and features traditional dhow sailing vessels alongside ultramodern yacht clubs, bridging the country's pearl-diving past with its oil-wealth present.

Friday is the main weekend in Kuwait (along with Saturday), so many offices and some shops close Friday morning—plan museum visits and shopping for Saturday or weekday afternoons.
