Things to Do in Taito City

Taito City is home to Senso-ji Temple, Tokyo's oldest temple, founded in 645 AD and still one of Japan's most visited religious sites.

The Tsukiji Outer Market, historically located in Taito, was the world's largest fish market before its 2018 relocation, handling over 1,600 tonnes of seafood daily.

Taito City contains the entire Asakusa district, famous for its traditional geisha culture and wooden machiya houses that survived Tokyo's postwar reconstruction.

The city's Kuramae area is the centre of Japan's traditional doll and toy manufacturing, with artisans continuing centuries-old craft techniques.

Taito includes parts of the Imperial Palace East Gardens, accessible to the public and featuring over 80 cherry tree varieties that bloom in late March to early April.

The district was heavily bombed during World War II but preserves more pre-war wooden architecture than almost any other Tokyo ward due to careful restoration efforts.
