Our full-day Waqrapukara Tour will take you to one of the lesser-known archaeological sites in the South of Cusco.
Waqrapukara, is a secluded fortress located on a hilltop that remains shrouded in mystery. The name Waqrapukara in Quechua means“Horn Fortress”.
This is because of its appearance as two distinctly horn-shaped peaks stand tall in the archaeological site. Unlike Machu Picchu or Choquequirao, the existence of Waqrapukara was recently discovered.
Archaeologists are still uncovering the mystery of its purpose. Apart from the fortress, the archeological complex also houses around eight farming terraces.
Recently, a team of archaeologists discovered triple-jambed, something that Incas used only in the site that had a supreme religious or political power.
We highly recommend you get well acclimatized before planning your hike to Waqrapukara. Also, do consider planning your Waqrapukara Tour after visiting Machu Picchu as this would physically prepare you well.
