This is a day tour which will give you a good idea about Tirana city's history and culture and then a nice walk into nature to visit a special bats cave, 15 km east.
For 3 hours we will wander in Tirana's main neighborhoods talking about its history from Romans, Ottomans, Communism time, and present. We will walk on the Main Square, Toptani area, Main Boulevard, and ex-Blloku.
After that, we will head southeast towards Pellumbasi village to visit the cave located in that area, driving about 30 min. Once there we will take the path leading to the cave. The path passes along the Erzeni River with clear blue water during summertime and nice canyons. After walking for just about 1 hour we will see the entrance of the cave.
We will get prepared to enter with head or hand lights, change the shoes if possible as it's very muddy inside, get an extra t-shirt, the temperature is colder than outside. Pellumbasi cave is of karstic origin and is about 150m long, 10-15m wide and 45m in height.
20-30 mins stop at Scanderbeg Square, Tirana City center to explain its foundation history and the historical buildings located there.
We will visit the Et'hem Bey Mosque, the oldest building in Tirana and one of its symbols, explain its history, and look at its beautiful decorations. Nearby is the Clock Tower another symbol of old Tirana and once the tallest building. We will then explain the other historical building like the National Bank of Albania, the National Museum, Hotel Tirana, the Palace of Culture, Tirana Municipality, etc.
About 30 min to visit Toptani Neighbourhood and its history about King Zog
We will pass by the Bunk Art 2 museum about Communist Atrocities, Castle of Toptani and the prince Residence, will pass by the House of Parliament and the new Mosque, the biggest on Balkans, still under construction.
Main Boulevard is the backbone of Tirana City, where all the most important state buildings are located.
We will have a long walk on the Main Boulevard of Tirana and will pass by the Pyramid, the Dictator Hoxha's Museum after his death, Prime Ministry, Presidency, Parliament Offices, University, Academy of Arts, National Stadium and much more.
We will pass by the ex-Blloku Neighborhood which is the beating heart of Tirana nowadays.
Ex-Blloku was the residence area of communist leader, which was completely closed to normal citizens to step in it. We will pass by Hoxha's house during all the time he was ruling Communist Albania. You will listen and feel what this area meant for us during communist time and it has become today, the most vibrant and impressive place to be in Tirana.
Pellumbas Cave is known as Bats Black Cave!
