Description

Athens is one of the capital city of Greece and it has a plethora of cultural, historical and architectural gems that define it. From the ancient times, Athens was the center of evolution and the mother of democracy. Many important people lived there, philosophers, mathematicians, physicians etc. Due to its culural wealth it is one of the most visited places in the world. Athens is full of monuments, museums and historical highlights that is impossible to explore in just one visit. This tour will give you a glimpse of 3000 years of history and fill you with indelible memories.

After we pick you up from your hotel, we will visit Akropolis through Dionysiou Areopagitou street. We will start from the Akropolis Metro Station and take the Pedestrian Road towards the Hill of the Muses, passing in front of the Acropolis Rock. Akropolis rock is the most emblematic place of Athens, with a very long history laying behind it. Your professional guide will give you many important onformation about the history of this glorious place and you will have the chance to take photos so you can remember this experience.

As our tour continues, we will walk on the paths carved by the famous architect Dimitrios Pikionis ; we will rest for a few minutes in front of the site that is known as “Socrates’ Prison”. Socrates was one of the most known personalities in ancient Greece, a bright mind that his words still shine today. You will learn about him and after the Prison we will hike up the hill to the top, where, resting under the pine trees.

Next, we will continue our way towards the hill of Pnyx – where the heart of Democracy beat in antiquity – and then reach the Hill of the Nymphs, passing in front of the National Observatory: the first research foundation of modern Greece and one of the oldest in Southern Europe.

After that, we will turn again on the Pedestrian Road Apostlou Pavlou as it descends towards Thisseio neighborhood, and we will take the busy Adrianou street, heading to Monastiraki Square. As we are strolling around you will have the chance to admire the plethora of small monuments that standing all over Athens, observe the cosmopolitan life of the citizens and take pictures of this beautiful city.

Then, we will stop for a while in front of a few remains from the Roman and Ottoman Era, before entering the bustling alleys of the flea market and the Avyssinias Square ( Monastiraki Area) where myriads of antiques are luring the passersby to a journey through time.

Last but not least, we will continue to reach the neighborhood of Psirri, where we will explore a few examples of graffiti and street art: a controversial topic that, apparently, defines Athens today.

Itinerary

Visit Acropolis, via Dionysiou Areopagitou street.

You will start from the Acropolis Metro Station and take the Pedestrian Road towards the Hill of the Muses, passing in front of the Acropolis Rock.

Visit Prison of Socrates, 100 metres from the southwestern edge of the Agora.

Once on the Hill of the Muses, you will walk on the paths carved by the famous architect Dimitrios Pikionis; you will rest for a few minutes in front of the site that is known as “Socrates’ Prison” and then you will hike up the hill to the top, where, resting under the pine trees 

Visit Pnyx at Philopappos Hill.

Stop at Thissio View.

This is a walking tour, so sneakers are recommended (no sandals). You will be walking on paved paths that can
be slippery, and you will go uphill and downhill. Also, you may wish to carry a bottle of water with you while on the
hills, since there will not be an opportunity for refreshments there. Finally, don’t forget cameras and your thirst for stories.
