Visiting a country which is situated within a city doesn’t happen every day. This is why we’re here to help you make the most of your visit to the Vatican, the smallest country on Earth and the seat of worldwide Catholicism.
- Visit The Vatican Museums
Few art collections in the world are more interesting and exciting than the Vatican Museums. The latter are home to one of the largest art collections in the world, arranged in two palaces which are connected to one another by means of gorgeous courtyards.
- Marvel At The Sistine Chapel
Technically, the Sistine Chapel is part of the Vatican Museums. Yet we had to make special mention to it because it is the ultimate thing to see in Vatican City. No words can describe the beauty of the chapel’s frescoes, among which Michelangelo’s masterpieces on the ceiling.
The only bad thing about the Sistine Chapel is that it can get unbearably crowded, so much so that you may not have enough time and peace to admire the art. For that reason, we highly recommend visiting the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel with a small group guided tour.
- Visit St Peter’s Square & St Peter’s Basilica
The magnificent St Peter’s Square is the main entrance to St Peter’s Basilica and the entire Vatican City. Designed in the 17th century by Bernini, the square is home to gorgeous statues and fountains and it is one of the most impressive open spaces in Italy.
One of the largest and prettiest churches in the world, St Peter’s Basilica was built over the tomb of Saint Peter. Entrance to the basilica is free of charge but expect long queues, no matter the day or weather.
- Snap a Selfie At Ponte Sant’Angelo
This gorgeous bridge is adorned with ten statues depicting angels. Snapping a photo on Ponte Sant’Angelo with the Castel Sant’Angelo in the background is one of the most iconic memories you’ll have from your Italy trip.
- Eat The Best Pizza Al Taglio
Art is amazing but pizza is yet another reason to visit Italy in the first place. Just outside the walls of the Vatican, you can try some of the best pizza al taglio (by the piece) in the entire city. Pizzarium Bonci bakes fresh pizza with various toppings and you will be tempted to try as many flavours as possible.
